< 2017 Oscar Jewelry over view

March 8, 2017

Each year the Oscar are the biggest worldwide event for the film industry, and whichever guests are invited certainly feel it to be a great honor. Apart from their achievement, what interests many in the audiences is always the fashion such as what dress, designer, hairstyle, accessory each celebrity wears or use. The red carpet moment is one that many focus upon apart from the Oscar winner in each category.

As a jewelry maker myself, apart from those glamour beautiful dresses the things that interest me most are the accessories that celebrities wear or use. Unfortunately, I am not famous enough yet to be invited to that event to see all these celebrities in reality ( I call myself “ On the way to famous" ..^-^). Therefore, here is my overview after reading through the blogs below:

  • Diamond….a girl’s best friend is back in trend again. About 9 years ago, due to the “Blood Diamond” film from Leonardo DiCaprio all celebrities who attended the Oscars in 2007 tried to avoid diamonds to show support for that film’s true story. But who can resist the charm of this shining, BlingBling gem forever? Here we go, diamond is back and with even more glamorous way to present it.

  • I am a strong believer in “ Less is more and simplest is best”. Also I have a big issue when I see someone greedily trying to put lots of un-matched Jewelry together with their dress. In the jewelry business, often guests expect me to wear all our designs together wherever I go.( Lots of jewelry designers do this and it’s really frustrating to talk to them as I have no idea where to focus my eyes.). However, I am a human not a jewelry shop. You can see all of our work at the iLGems.com website, and I will only wear 1 or 2 matching items at suitable occasions from time to time.

  • In this year’s Oscars, I did see several celebrities put every pieces of jewelry they can grab from their sponsors when they walked on the red carpet. All this jewelry would be shown in a better way if it was presented individually, and it’s so sad to see them mis-matched.

  • Every 15~20 years seems a cycle for fashion, things come and go but certain unique design stay in your memory. This year, several celebrities dressed up the style of the 1920’s or 30’s. We were honored to see some antique jewelry that are in the private collections of several famous brands. I would love to have had the chance for a closer look at the amazing beautiful work of these pieces. Traditional artwork is certainly difficult to find in the jewelry business of today.

  • Some celebrities wore a blue ribbon on their elegant dresses. This was to show support for ACLN( the American Civil Liberties Union) to reflect the latest USA political issues.
